green is good

You may have remembered me mentioning the fact that I'm obsessed with holiday-themed products. From candy to clothing to crafting supplies, if there's a holiday-themed item I must have it! {Well that's what my first thought is, but then I make myself think about whether or not it is something I really need, and whether or not I will actually use whatever it may be.}

In reality, I'm usually able to walk away and move on, unless it is a papercrafting supply lol. Or one of my top must-have holiday food items ~ McDonald's "Shamrock Shake".

I know some of you are probably thinking "eeeew", but every March I must have at least one. Some years I hold out longer than others, as I'm usually trying to eat healthier now that summer is on it's way.

Anyways, yesterday was the day when I caved in and bought myself one. It was yummy, but the entire time I was drinking it I kept thinking that I should just make homemade one's. Not only would they be healthier, but taste better as well.

So, my mission within the next week is to make homemade Shamrock Shakes. I will share the recipe and photos when it all goes down. And maybe, just maybe, my obsession with the McDonald's version will finally be over :)

Now I'm off to work on another custom order for my Little Birdie Cupcake Toppers! I also hope to find a good recipe and make homemade oreo cookies. Of course these will have green filling :)

Hope you all have a great weekend!
Does anyone have any fun weekend projects?

Fabulous Friday Finds

The weeks have been flying by like crazy! Where does time go I'll never know, but here we are once again with my Fabulous Friday Finds post!

I always have so much fun preparing for these posts. I start with a random theme such as a color or a phrase, and then I sign onto Etsy and begin my journey.

I can spend hours looking through all the wonderful handmade and vintage items I come across. All of these either inspire new creative ideas for myself, or inspire me to spend money!

This week I chose red and blue as my "theme". I absolutely LOVE this color combination, use it a lot in my own creations, and decided to see how others combine these colors.

I only choose 9 items a week, although I had many more bookmarked to use :) There is a mixture of handmade, vintage and repurposed goods. The links to each Etsy shop is under the collage if you'd like to see more from a particular shop. Keep in mind that it is important to support these types of businesses possible :)

Would you wear these???

Is it a sneaker or is it a boot? Omgosh it's both. I find this very, very strange. And to answer my own question, no I would NOT wear these, although I would love to find someone who says they would.

This is the newest release from Adidas. On their website they describe this sneaker boot thingy like this:

"Yee-haw! These adidas Originals Jeremy Scott MEGA Soft Cell boots get you rodeo-ready with their hybrid cowboy-boot-meets-basketball-trainer style. The men's boots are made from soft leather with a debossed Trefoil on the heel and tongue, and MEGA Soft Cell cushioning."

I guess that these boots enable you to run (literally) from the rodeo to your basketball practice without having to change your shoes. I'm not sure how many people on this earth would need this combination in a shoe, but nevertheless here they are.

Moving onto prettier things, here are some fabulous shoes introduced for Spring 2012.  And YES I would wear all of these :)

Shoe from Tommy Hilfiger

Platform sandals from Dolce and Gabanna

Plateau Sandal from Anna Sui

Wedge Espadrille from Kate Spade

Shoe from Nicholas Kirkwood

Which shoe do you like best? I like the purple one's from Anna Sui, and the red and white checked from Dolce and Gabbana.  Of course I will never own any of these shoes, but it's nice to dream.  And remember, I'm looking for someone who would wear the adidas sneaker boots!

Happy Thursday!

Wordless Wednesday ...

... taking flight

This past weekend while looking through some older photos I came across Autumn dressed up in her witch costume two years ago. I clearly remember this day. It was a sunny, warm, fall day. Autumn was running around in the yard with a broomstick, and the best idea came to me ~ I should try to create a photo where it appears as if she were flying away on the broomstick.

She thought this was a fun idea as well (otherwise she would have flat out refused and I wouldn't have gotten any photos of her!). I tried all different angles and poses, and was amazed that my photos turned out the way they did. For a non-photographer, I was pretty proud of myself.

This photo very much inspires me to take out my camera more often :))

Can't wait to see what your all sharing on this WW!

OREO is Celebrating It's 100th Birthday!

On this very day in 1912, 100 years ago, the Oreo Cookie was introduced. I am amazed by this fact! In 1912 Woodrow Wilson was president, and sadly it's also the same year the Titanic sank.

I was curious as to how Oreo's were packaged way back when, so here are a few photos I found. I'm not sure of the time period for each package, but it certainly has changed!

And of course I couldn't resist throwing in a photo of homemade oreo cookies! No I didn't make these myself , although it is very tempting.  Has anyone ever made homemade oreos?  I'd love to hear how they turned out.

If I ever decide to go ahead with making my own, they will look like these (pink filling and all). And of course if they turn out delicious I would share the recipe :)

Have a wonderful day!

color mixing fun !

School vacation has ended, and it's back to our routine. The routine where I have a few hours alone where I can work on Etsy orders, plan blog posts, and quietly do all the things I need to get done. There's nobody here to complain about my choice in music, or to tell me that there's nothing good to eat after I've just returned from shopping.  Not that I don't like to have the kids home, but as a mother it can get a bit overwhelming at times. We all need a break and alone time.

One fun activity I did with Autumn during the week, was a color mixing science experiment. On a recent trip to the craft store (yes I'm there a LOT!), I found this kit and knew she'd love it. Last summer she began this really messy project where she'd collect jars from the recycling bin, fill them with water, and add food coloring, experimenting to see what colors she could come up with.

The worst part was that she used up all my food coloring, stained a few things, and was storing these jars under her bed. So this kit was the perfect way to let her mix all she wanted, since it includes everything you need. Then when your done you can pack it all away for another day.

The best part is that you can choose some of your favorite colors you made, add special crystals which come with the kit, wait an hour, an voila ~ they turn into slimy blobs you can save!

On another note ~ if you are a regular reader of my blog you probably noticed my new blog design.  I originally planned on being all creative and was going to design my own blog template in Photoshop, but that venture didn't turn out so well.  So yes I have a premade template, but I love the fact that it's three columns so everything can be a bit larger. And I was able to customize it enough so that it's more my style.

I do still need to add some social media buttons, and a few little fun elements to the sidebars.  I can't wait until it's complete.  Makes me feel more professional :)

Hope you all have a great week!
